Making room for calm-abiding.

I have included meditation in pursuit of calm-abiding into my personal spiritual practice for many years. When I began to integrate calm-abiding principals into my life one of the first lessons is to make clean the place where you meditate and to display the supports that you need for meditation.

To me the tidying of a special space and displaying supports for meditation are one in the same. Making space for calm-abiding means making a space for the practice of calm-abiding.

Transforming my living room into a meditation space is a process of arrangement of beautiful objects, icons and making space for the burning of incense and medicine.

This is an example of an incense burner for cone incense or raw frankincense.
Alter - 2

A progression from the original alter concept, Alter – 2 is more dramatic and integrates colour. I wanted to build on the original design but play with the scale of the monumental arch and also edit the central disk.

The columns are painted with water based stain and India ink.

The central disk is turned from solid pear wood and inlayed with mother of pearl.

Alter

The alter is a way to elevate your spiritual nature and give some separation to it from your other possessions.

I like to make the alters in a variety of complimentary woods so that the colour can premaritally come from their natural variances.
